This project engages with the district's vibrant natural environment through iNaturalist with the ultimate aim of establishing Friends Groups.  There are
introductory sessions at Heyfield Wetlands and Sale's Lakes Guyatt & Guthridge and follow up session to fine tune knowledge gained in the preliminary sessions.

Pests A Thoughtful Approach

This project includes a field day with video production and printed leaflets to help boost landowner understanding of the best practices to minimise problems with pest plants and animals

This is funded by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action under the Partnerships Against Pests Program and finishes at the end of 2025 (with report due January 2026).

Extending the Biolink: Maffra to Tinamba
'Extending the Biolink'

This project built on previous year's planting and weed management on the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail (GPRT) this project extended work to Gannons Lane and was completed in early 2025.   It's hoped to have another extension along the Rail Trail during later 2025.

Nuntin Creek Restoration Project 2025

MDLN partnered with 4 landholders along the Nuntin Creek to install 2.1 kms of livestock exclusion fencing, planting of 7000 indigenous plants along 3 hectares of banks along 1km of creek frontage.

The project aims to improve the quality of the water in our local waterways and entering out Gippsland Lakes system while improving biodiversity, creating biolinks of habitat, protecting bank soils and beautifying the local environment for our community.

​

East Gippsland Catchment Management Authority has funded Maffra and Districts Landcare Network to complete the Nuntin Creek Restoration Project 2025 as part of their Community action improving condition of and connection to our Lakes fund.
